These coatings reduce the reflection from the surface of an optic. They are used to increase the throughput of the optical system and to reduce 'ghosting' and parasitic back reflections in an optical system.

Ball Lenses - PDF Data Sheet (76.91 kB)

Ball lenses are spheres of optical glass ranging in size from 0.250 mm to 25 mm. They are used as fiber interconnects in telecom and expanded beam connectors. Large ball lenses have been successfully used as collectors in LED lighting systems and medical devices.

A filter that has high transmission in one spectral region and low transmission at longer and shorter wavelengths. Bandpass filters are commonly used to trim the output of a light source or the input of a detector.

Beamsplitters selectively reflect a percentage of light and transmit a percentage of light.

These filters are designed to improve the performance of CCD (charge-coupled device) chips. They act to trim the input to a CCD chip, reducing noise in a system.

Coatings on Plastics - PDF Data Sheet (597.47 kB)

DSI offers extremely durable, non-absorbing, and complex thin film coatings on plastics. Single band, multi-band, and wide band multi-layer, anti-reflection coatings on engineered plastics are utilized in medical optics, UAV sensor suites, telecom, CPV solar systems, and more.

These filters are used to change the color of a light source.

Covert filters transmit infrared (IR) wavelengths and reflect or absorb visible light. They allow an area to be illuminated with infrared light so it can be viewed with night vision equipment or IR cameras.

A dark mirror is a low reflective, low transmissive filter. Dark mirrors are used as the base for DSI Spectral Metal.

Dichroic, meaning two color, filters reflect certain wavelengths of light and transmit other wavelengths of light. These filters can be manufactured to reflect short wavelengths of light and transmit the longer wavelengths or transmit the shorter wavelengths and reflect the longer wavelengths.

These are dichroic filters with specific requirements for the placement and slope of the band edge.

DSI has been at the forefront of energy efficient coating technology for over 20 years. DSI developed the first infrared reflecting visible transmitting coating on a halogen lamp. Currently DSI is able to produce coatings that improve the efficiency of a halogen lamp by 30%. DSI is currently producing coatings to improve the efficiency in the areas of solid state lighting, photovoltaic solar energy and thermal solar energy.

The emission of light at longer wavelengths by a substance as the result of absorption at shorter wavelengths.

Coatings that can withstand either high temperature spikes or high continuous operating temperatures. DSI calls this line of coatings by the trade name Heatbuster®.

A cold mirror reflects short wavelengths and transmits longer wavelengths. It functions as a mirror to the 'cold' or short wavelengths.

Heatbuster® Hot Mirrors - PDF Data Sheet (235.81 kB)

A hot mirror reflects long wavelengths and transmits shorter wavelengths. It functions as a mirror to the 'heat' or long wavelengths.

Infrared (IR) Coatings - PDF Data Sheet (1.02 MB)

Coatings that operate beyond the visible spectrum, typically from 800 nm to 50 µm.

A family of indium tin oxide (ITO) coatings that transmit wavelengths of light and are electrically conductive. IM ITO (index-matched ITO) coatings are matched into the exit medium to yield higher transmission. Common applications are electro-static discharge and window heaters.

Coatings comprised of metals. Commonly deposited metals include, gold, silver, nickel, chrome, and aluminum.

Multispectral Filters and Patterned Filters - PDF Data Sheet (711.96 kB)

Optical filters that have a pattern in the filter. Patterned optical filters are typically manufactured using photolithography. Patterned dichroic filters are used in multispectral and hyperspectral systems.

A coating that has a relatively flat absorption curve throughout a section of the spectrum.

A coating that has high reflection in a narrow portion of the spectrum and high transmission at shorter and longer wavelengths. A common application is laser eye protection.

A reflective optical device.

A type of notch filter that contains multiple notches. Rugate filters are used primarily for laser eye protection.

DSI is engaged in many aspects of the solar industry. Coating offerings for the photovoltaics (PV) market include durable silver mirrors, spectral trimming filters tailored to the solar spectrum to improve the efficiency of solar cells, coatings on collector optics, and trimming filters for test and simulation equipment.

The DSI trade name for a family of coatings on metal that selectively reflect and absorb light. Spectral Metal can be cut and formed after coating, allowing the system designer to use complex concave shapes within a low cost system. Spectral Metal is used in the UV printing and curing industry, medical imaging and LED systems.

The sunshade is a coated Kapton material. The product is wrapped on satellites to control the thermal load on the satellite.

These filters block the ultraviolet (UV) and transmit the visible spectrum. These filters are used to prevent UV adhesives from curing prematurely, to slow spoilage in fresh produce, and to protect fine artwork.

These are filters that operate in the visible spectrum between 400 nm and 780 nm.
